A Man Carrying A Pitcher

Good Morning!

 We never know when God will call us to do something uncommon. Sometimes His instructions feel odd, uncomfortable, or out of place but obedience is still the assignment. In Luke 22:10, Jesus tells His disciples to follow a man carrying a pitcher of water. In their culture, women typically carried water jars, so seeing a man do this would have been unusual. Yet this unnamed man was faithfully doing what God told him to do.

 

Scripture doesn’t tell us his name, his background, or why he carried the pitcher. What we do know is this: God gave him a task, and he obeyed. His simple act of obedience positioned him to play a quiet but essential role in preparing the place where Jesus would share the Last Supper.

 

Imagine the whispers he may have heard. The stares. The questions. Perhaps even ridicule. Still, he continued. His obedience, though strange to others his actions served God in a powerful way.

 

God often uses uncommon instructions to accomplish extraordinary purposes. Moses had to stretch out a staff. Gideon had to reduce his army. Naaman had to dip in a river seven times. None of these acts made sense at first, yet each unlocked God’s divine plan.

 

What has God asked you to do that feels unusual? Don’t run from it. Don’t overthink it. Trust Him. When God calls you to an uncommon task, He is preparing an uncommon blessing.

 

Do the unusual thing and watch God make it extraordinary.
