Grief

Job just encountered the greatest lost of his life; seven children perished, all worldly possessions destroyed and sickness consumed his body from head to toe.

For some reason society believes that we should console one another by giving gifts or speaking politically correct words of condolences.  Here we read how Job's friends consoled him during his grief - by sitting silent for seven days and seven nights.

Consider your friends and family grieving; opposed of shallow words, try comforting them without speaking a word. Sit and meditate with them for one day or one hour. 

Confrontation can be deadly

A man sees a couple conversing loudly. He confronts the antagonist. Words are exchanged. A gun is fired. The antagonist, a father is dead. As Christians, Jesus charged us to help our neighbors, the poor, and even strangers (Matt.25:35). In doing so we have to use our Godly ability to make right decisions. Know when to let it go. Two lives lost because neither man knew how to walk away. Being a Christian is complicated. Ego, pride and emotions can cloud our judgement. Our tongues can be like fire (Jas 3:1-6). Sparking chaos which could become harmful, even detrimental. In the heat of confrontation, take a minute and pause. Allow the Holy Spirit to intervene. Learn to walk away, even if you are right. Live to see another day.  

Mental illness is real

Excuse me sir do you have some change, for to get something to eat?”

The woman with tattered clothes, matted hair and missing one eye,  lumbered through the train asking unconcerned passengers for change.  “Lord have mercy, I’m tired. I need sleep, but I can’t go to sleep I will miss my exit.” Mental illness is real. Spirits of the mind clash with reality causing an altered state of mind. We cast mentality Incapacitated people away never knowing how severe their pain. The man with many legions was also casted away to live among the dead (Luke 8:26-39) only Jesus could heal him. The restless One-eye woman lumbered her way back in my direction, plopping down in the sit in front of me. It was obvious she was mentally ill, The wrist band indicated her recent stay at Atlanta medical.  “Excuse me sir if I fall asleep please wake me up at the last stop.” I acknowledged and said I would. Mental illness does not magically erase morals or show empathy toward others. Despite her Illness she wanted empathy.  Can mental illness be cured? All things are possible through Christ if we asked. The last stop, I spoke to the woman asking her where she was trying to go. “I only want something to eat.” In parting I gave her some money. We prayed asking God to bless and heal her from her pain. 

You are a conqueror.

There was a time when I coped with life just to exist. I coaxed my mind that everything was okay. Pep talks and prayer were all to no avail. A consumed soul, teeming with self-inflected guilt, and disappointments. The mind is powerful. God can manifest all power in you, and your mind would convince you differently. The great prophet Elijah was no different. He called down the wrath of God on 450 of Baal’s prophets, (1Kings 18:16-45) yet he feared for his life simply because Jezebel said he would die in 24hrs (1kings 19:1-3). What are you telling yourself? Death or life is in the power of the tongue. Encourage yourself daily. Pray daily. Seek God. Trust God’s word. You are a  conqueror. 

Make an impact daily

You never know the impact that you have on others. You never know who is watching, listening, or reading what you post. Many who read my daily posts rarely comment. I must admit, it took time for me to not take it personally. There is something that YOU do that YOU feel is insignificant. Be assured it’s not. What you have devalued could be the one thing of value someone needs. I’m learning to   maintain my purpose in spite of the difficulty. In your daily walk, do the same. Always Let your light so shine before men, that they may see God in what you do. 

Producing for God

It’s so easy to lose focus on being productive for God. We get lost in helping others accomplish things but we neglect our Godly responsibilities. I’ve found myself postponing my gift. Finding every excuse not to birth what God has placed within me. Yesterday I had two meetings with friends. Both producers for God. They are givers. Encouragers. They sacrifice themselves for others. At each meeting, both spoke a profound message into my spirit. I was reminded, it’s time for me to produce again. God has given us all spiritual gifts (Rom12:6). These gifts are to encourage and build up the body of believers. What God gift are you neglecting? It’s Time to press the restart button. Stop procrastinating and start producing! Nurture your spiritual gifts, so God can use you to bless others.

 Good Morning!

Being mistreated or feeling betrayed is not favored by anyone.

Occasionally, we experience persecution. In our world, broken relationships abound, from hatred and contention to jealousy, anger, selfishness, and division.

 The church's body of believers may claim to live by “the spirit”, however, our actions demonstrate something contrary. Most of our time is spent living off the negative energy of the body.

  Paul spoke out against a life of indulgence. Things like strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, and disputes are found in Galatians 5:19-26. Our relationships can be plagued by turmoil and meltdowns, leading us to walk in the flesh instead of the Spirit.

 What steps do you take to defuse a situation? What can we do to fight the "hatred" or "anger" that has arisen in our spirit? Jesus commanded, "Love your enemies." Our mind and flesh urge us to react, prove our point, or seek vengeance. Striving for results guided by the Spirit is the right answer.

 We must not only live in the Spirit, but also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:26) urges us not to be arrogant and to stop provoking one another.

 It is only through consistent practice and faith in God's word that strife can be overcome in all matters. Have faith. Pray continuously and God will guide you along the right path through the turbulent storm.

The burning fire within

Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise” is one of her most famous poems. It’s message depicts resiliency, strength, and beauty that oppressed people have encountered for years. Jesus’ life symbolizes the very words of Angelou’s poem. “With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I'll rise.” The crucifixion was meant to kill Jesus and his message. But in three days he rose. The Monday after Resurrection Sunday has significant meaning. It’s the day He told believers not to leave just yet. Wait for the ‘gift’ my father promised - The Holy Spirit (Acts1:3-5). Without the Holy Spirit our relationship with God would be useless- dead. The Holy Spirit is the conduit that connects us with Christ (Eph.2:5). The Spirit becomes our eyes and ears to understand the things of God (Jan 3:3, 1Co 2:12). Connect with God. Let the fire of the HolyvSpirit rise in you! 

3 words that keep you from greatness

These three words have hindered me most of my life. It has delayed me from activating God’s purpose for me! What you perceive in your mind and speak with your mouth can either hinder or propel you to greatness. Negative images and thoughts can be conquered through prayer, faith and trust in God. Whatever your hindrance, talk to God, pray and fight to overcome these three words. There is greatness in you!

The eyes of a stranger

A gentle voice called out, “is anyone there? Do you mind if I walk with you? Can you be my eyes?” My response was yes, I can help. Walking the steps with a stranger, I was reminded of how we take for granted the ability to talk, walk, see, or ear. Life could be arduous. Her blindness didn’t steal her joy. Her inability didn’t hinder from asking for help from a stranger. Her cheerfulness gave me joy! God places people in our lives only for a moment. Do we become a living sacrifice and help others or do we think of ourselves more highly than we should? Love is action. Learn to share with God’s people in need. Practice hospitality.

All eyes on God

When faced with trials, we often take our eyes off God. Though we profess our faith, we still doubt that God can fight the battle. 2 Chronicles 20 illustrates how Jehoshaphat couldn’t see how Judah could defeat a larger army. God reminded him not to be afraid or discouraged because the battle is not yours (v.15).  What is hindering you from doing God’s plan? What are you afraid of? Put your trust and faith in God. The ability to move forward and not look back becomes the victory. 

The desires of your heart

Without knowing the full context of a message, people conclude they have all the facts based on a sound bite. The same applies to quoting bible verses. When we don't take time to hear (or read) the entire scripture yet we come up with our own interpretation of a verse. There are many examples in the bible where people text hop and misquote the meaning. One example: Psalms 37:4 He will give you the desires of your heart.

This passage is often the epitome to God answering prayers for our desires. When we read two verses before and two verses after, we discover a deeper meaning. Reading Psalms 37:1-6 one will realize that to get the desires of your heart there are several steps you have to take.

1. Do not fret daily 

2. Don’t worry how evil ones prosper

3. trust God fully

4. take delight in God

5. commit our way to God

Remember, the true purpose of our existence has nothing to do with getting the desires of our heart (more money, bigger house, better job, or other material things) but everything to do with serving and worshiping God daily.

Words are like fire

Harsh words hurt. When sowed in the spirit, they can harvest hatred and anger.  “You are just like your father”, you are dumb, a failure, no good, an idiot.” Words reverberate in the spirit like an echo. The bible tells us the tongue is fire; it is evil and can corrupt the whole body (Jas 3:1-6). Be mindful of the words you speak. Your words can ruin a person for life! In anger, people say damaging expressions. Once spoken the words echo in the recipient’s mind planting seeds of doubt and disbelief. Watch the words that you say. They can be a matter of life or death. 

The power of light

It takes more power to generate light than noise. People make a lot noise for God. Exalting admiration and claiming their goodness before others (Lk. 18:11).

Jesus attested boastful arrogance. He called them hypocrites; they honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from him (Mrk. 7:6-7). Jesus said we are the light of the world (Matt 5: 14-17). Like a city on a hill should be able to see the God in you through your actions not your lip service. 

Be quite. Do more in Jesus name and others will see your God light shine. 

The end result

I love a good pound cake! I even love the ingredients in the cake. But when eggs, butter, sugar and flour are isolated in raw form most don’t taste good. 

Such is life. We all are going through something. When we go at it alone it doesn’t feel good. We often give up and sometimes blame others. 

When all the ingredients are folded and worked in properly together it’s all for a good cake! Likewise, allow God to work in our lives just like the cake. Don’t let your troubles separate you from God. You are conquers through Christ who loves you! 

Mustard Seed Faith

Jesus emphasized the importance of faith. Jesus responded to a person’s level of faith. 

A few times faith was transferable from one person to heal another. The four men and a paralyzed friend (Lk 5:17-26), 

The Faith of the Centurion (Lk 7:1-10). 

Jesus saw their faith and healed! Peter’s faith enabled him to walk on water as long as he didn’t doubt. 

We, with little faith must remember God is greater than whatever we are facing. Exercise your mustard seed faith until it grows. 

Do not judge

How quick we judge others based on our beliefs.

We condemn and criticize, before we love or forgive the ‘convicted.’ 

We conveniently forget we are not to judge others, or we will be judged with the same measure used (Matt. 7:1-2). 

We live our lives no different than the Pharisees. We see the ‘speck’ in others eyes but miss the ‘log’ in our own.

The story of the sinful woman (Lk. 7:36-50), depicts how we often become judge, jury, and deity over others and neglect the fact there is something we have done that has fallen short of Pleasing God.

We should show more love to others because through Jesus we have been forgiven! He who has been forgiven little loves little. 

Never take the journey alone

Your life’s journey was not design for you to travel alone. 

Though it is you who has to go the course, surround yourself with those who will help and encourage you along the way. Likewise, seek God. For He can order your steps as well as send Angels to help along the way. 

When we go alone and things don’t go our way, we tend to blame God for the outcome. In all things seek God’s will. Seek his guidance. Never take the Journey alone. 

What is your character

The Good Samaritan in Jesus’ parable was a trusted man with good character traits(Lk 10:25-37). 

His willingness to stay over night and care for an injured man exemplifies this (Lk 10:35). His ability to leave funds with innkeeper also signifies his honest reputation preceded him. Either he has done this before or the innkeeper knows his character.  The Samaritan could be trusted. (Lk 10:36). 

What are your character traits? Who do people people see? A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches. 

Jesus was a man with impeccable character. He asked for us to imitate him. In all your doings be a Good Samaritan. Be Christ Like. 

Imitating Christ’s Humility

 

As Christians we strive to be Christ like. Yet, when the opportunity arises, most times we ignore. 

Paul said we should imitate Jesus’ humility. Do nothing out of selfish ambition. We should “Value others above ourselves” (Philippians 2:1-8). Whatever we do for others, do it without grumbling. 

During this Lenten season, instead of giving up something, do something. My Pastor, Rev. Vandy Simmons suggested we should be more like the Good Samaritan (Lk 10:25-37). Show genuine concern for others. If we are truly striving to be Christ Like we cannot look out for our own interests. We have to learn to put others first,albeit friends or strangers. 

So, what can you do? Cook a meal for someone? Take to the doctor? Visit? Pray? Whatever it is, imitate Christ’s humility. 

When God Seems Far Away

We often miss hearing the voice of God because of busyness.

 Overburdened with work, children and even church can make it difficult to recognize God’s presence. 

The debate of Martha and Mary. When Jesus arrived, Martha chose to work in the kitchen while Mary sat at Jesus feet (Lk 10:38-42).  

Being busy doesn’t equate to godliness. You can miss connecting with God when your calendar is over booked. Take time and connect with God daily. 

Don’t Forget God

Why are people so ungrateful?

When answered prayers are granted most are no different than the 9 lepers who failed to thank Jesus for healing them (Luke 17:11-20). When wants go unanswered many become frustrated with God. In everything, don’t forget God! After 40 years in the wilderness 

God reminded the children of Israel once you are satisfied don’t forget to praise the Lord (Deut. 8:1-20). If you are currently in a wilderness or have built great wealth; don’t forget God. Be grateful for every blessing. Learn to praise and thank God more.

Good Morning!

Numerous Christians are going through a state of perplexity while enduring hardships that have impacted their spirit, physical health, and mental well-being. They have reached the limit of their capacity and with no optimism for the future. Jesus Christ offers a ray of hope to those who perceive their future as dark or hopeless.

             The story of Lazarus provides a compelling depiction of despair. Jesus' followers were aware of and had seen all the                            amazing miracles he had performed. Healing the sick, bestowing sight to the blind, and bringing back the dead to life.

 When word spread about Lazarus' sickness, those closest to Jesus were certain that Jesus wouldn't hesitate to come to Lazarus’ aid.  But he delayed His journey for a duration of four days.

The people lost hope due to Jesus' delay. Martha expressed her doubts about the situation to Jesus in an open manner by stating the words, "If you had been here, my brother would not have died" as per John 11:21.

  Jesus' most significant achievements are often seen when all hope appears lost. Jesus let his disciples know that Lazarus had died before they left (John 11:14).

In the present world, Jesus can renew our hope and faith. Despite the despair felt by Martha and others, Jesus ordered the stone to be removed from the tomb and Lazarus was miraculously brought back to life upon his command (verses 38-44).

How can Jesus help your unbelief? Surrender to the divine power. Have faith in God's promises and let Him dispel all your uncertainties. Renew your faith in God. No matter what happens in your situation, don't forget to acknowledge God, and give Him all the praise and honor. Your life is a testimony of how God has restored you.
